Updated: Sep 20, 2023

St. Mary’s Dominates Rogue River with Skill, Strategy, and Unyielding Drive

After their triumphant victory against Lakeview, the St. Mary’s Crusaders continued their relentless march to glory when they faced Rogue River at their home ground. The game was a display of pure soccer brilliance.

The match ignited with an explosive start as Leo Cronk '24 swiftly found the back of the net, courtesy of a precise pass from Connor Gibbs '25. The dynamic duo of Cronk and Christopher Kranenburg '24 then masterminded a mesmerizing one-two passing sequence that concluded with Kranenburg confidently burying the ball in the net. Cronk, demonstrating his unyielding drive, went on to score again, this time with a simple tap-in following a brilliant cross delivered by the talented Magni Glaser '25.

Similar to their previous game, Kranenburg and Ben Lee '24 rekindled their remarkable chemistry. Lee displayed his artistry by maneuvering skillfully past the defense and launching a shot that found its way to Kranenburg, who volleyed the ball into the net with finesse. In an unexpected twist, Davis Jones '25, typically the stalwart guardian of the Crusaders' goal, found himself celebrating an extraordinary goal, all thanks to a backheel kick from Kranenburg. The first half concluded with a flourish, as Jose Mondesi '26's precision cross ricocheted off a Rogue River defender and nestled into the net, pushing the scoreline to an astonishing 6-0.

The second half saw the Crusaders adopting a deliberate approach, emphasizing ball possession as they aimed to control the tempo of the game. Connor Gibbs added another feather to his cap with a smooth shot that found the mark midway through the second half, further solidifying St. Mary’s dominance. Jose Mondesi put the finishing touches on the game, sealing it with a jaw-dropping volley following a corner kick.

With their eyes firmly set on the upcoming clash against Lost River, the Crusaders are gearing up to unleash a similar level of intensity and determination. As they continue to dazzle on the field, there's no doubt that St. Mary’s is a team to watch this season, and their opponents should brace themselves for a fierce battle on the pitch.
